MCKNIGHT, BRAXTON, CIARA, AMERIE TO IGNITE '05 LADY OF SOUL AWARDS!
Los
Angeles, CA (August 3, 2005) --
Music superstar Aretha Franklin, long recognized as the Queen of
Soul, is set to make a rare TV appearance at the 10th Annual Soul Train
Lady of Soul Awards TV special. The 2005 Lady of Soul Awards special is
scheduled to air in first-run national syndication during a September
17 through 25, 2005 window, according to Executive Producer Don Cornelius.
Ms. Franklin is joined at the 2005 Lady of Soul Awards by superstars such
as Stevie Wonder, Brian McKnight, Toni Braxton, Ciara, Amerie, John
Legend and more. The event also promises to feature one of music history's
only televised duet performances by long-time friends Aretha Franklin
and Stevie Wonder.
Ms. Franklin will be honored during the telecast by the presentation to
her of the 2005 Lena Horne Award For Outstanding Career Achievements.
The Lena Horne Award will be presented to Ms. Franklin by Stevie Wonder,
while the presentation of an additional special award, the 2005 Aretha
Franklin Award For "Entertainer of the Year", also awarded annually,
will be presented to Sony Urban/Columbia Recording star Amerie, and will
be presented (for the first time since its inception, in 1995), by Aretha
Franklin, herself.
The entire event, to be videotaped at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, will
be co-hosted by music superstars Brian McKnight, Toni Braxton and Ciara.
Cornelius and Katie Jones will produce, Morris Abraham will direct, with
George Duke serving as Musical Director. Tribune Entertainment Company
will distribute for the tenth consecutive year.
