TOP SUPERSTARS TO LIGHT-UP TWENTIETH
SOUL TRAIN MUSIC AWARDS!
Beverly
Hills , CA (February 2, 2006) --
Special appearances by Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx and music superstar’s
Stevie Wonder, Destiny’s Child, Quincy Jones, R. Kelly, and John Legend
will provide an extraordinary, 20th Anniversary flavor to the overall
festivities at the 20th Annual (2006) Soul Train Music Awards TV Special-set
to Video tape on Saturday, March 4th, 2006, at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
The
annual Soul Train Awards Production Team is equally excited over the nomination
voting results, with R. Kelly leading the field with three (3) nominations
and nine (9) other recording stars including, The Black Eyed Peas, Mariah
Carey, Keyshia Cole, John Legend, Missy Elliott, Gwen Stefani, Bobby Valentino,
Kanye West, and Charlie Wilson, earning (2) two nominations each according
to Creator and Executive Producer Don Cornelius.
The star studded TV special will be co-hosted by lovely film star Vivica
A. Fox and versatile music and film star Tyrese Gibson.
The
event will be highlighted by the presentation of the First (1st) Annual
Stevie Wonder award for Outstanding Career Achievements in Song Writing,
which will be presented to Jive/BMG recording star R. Kelly, by Stevie
Wonder himself.
In addition, Quincy Jones, himself, will be on hand to present the special
award, named in his honor (for Outstanding Career Achievements) to recipients
Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx and music superstars Destiny’s Child.
The 2006 Sammy Davis, Jr. “Entertainer of the Year Award,” will be presented
to Sony Urban Music recording star John Legend.

Kelly’s three (3) nominations are for (Best R&B/Soul Single, Male, “Trapped
in the Closet (Chapter 1 of 5)”), (Best R&B/Soul Album, Male, “TP.3 Reloaded”)
and (The Michael Jackson Award for Best R&B/Soul or Rap Music Video, “Trapped
in the Closet (Chapter 1 of 5)”.)
The
Black Eyed Peas earned props for (Best R&B/Soul Album, Group, Band or
Duo, “Monkey Business”) and (Best R&B/Soul or Rap Dance Cut, “My Humps”),
with Mariah Carey earning nominations for (Best R&B/Soul Single, Female,
“We Belong Together”) and (Best R&B/Soul Album, Female, “The Emancipation
of Mimi), and Keyshia Cole coming through with nominations for (Best R&B/Soul
Single, Female, “I Should Have Cheated”) and (Best R&B/Soul Album, Female,
“The Way It Is”). Missy Elliott’s “Lose Control” featuring Ciara and Fat
Man Scoop scored nominations for (The Michael Jackson Award for Best R&B/Soul
or Rap Music Video), and (Best R&B/Soul or Rap Dance Cut), with John Legend
getting props for (Best R&B/Soul Single, Male, “Ordinary People”) and
(Best R&B/Soul Album, Male, “Get Lifted”.) The voters liked Gwen Stefani’s
single, “Hollaback Girl” for (Best R&B/Soul Single, Female) and (Best
R&B/Soul or Rap Dance Cut) with Bobby Valentino scoring nominations for
(Best R&B/Soul Single, Male, “Slow Down”), and (Best R&B/Soul or Rap New
Artist, “Slow R&B Down”), while Kanye West’s “Gold Digger” featuring Jamie
Foxx nailed nominations for (The Michael Jackson Award for Best R&B/Soul
or Rap Music Video) and (Best R&B/Soul or Rap Dance Cut), and Charlie
Wilson was appreciated for (Best R&B/Soul Single, Male ) and (Best R&B/Soul
Album, Male) for “Charlie, Last Name Wilson.”
Nominees for the Best R&B/Soul or Rap New Artist are Chris Brown, Leela
James, Lyfe Jennings and Bobby Valentino.
Recording
Artists 112, Alicia Keys, Kurt Carr, Common, Destiny’s Child, Earth, Wind
& Fire, Faith Evans, Fantasia, Floetry, Kirk Franklin, Anthony Hamilton,
Donnie McClurkin, Mint Condition, Nina Sky, The Pussycat Dolls and CeCe
Winans received one nomination each.
The
long established, overall, Soul Train Music Awards voting body includes
active professionals in the fields of radio station programming, retail
sales and management and recording artists with records that reach one
or more music trade publication charts during the past one year eligibility
period.
Tribune
Entertainment Company will distribute for the 20th consecutive year, with
Executive Producer Don Cornelius and Katie Jones serving as producers,
Michael Simon will direct with the incomparable George Duke as Musical
Director.
